Welcome to Thozhi Womens Cancer Center

A Dream of Dr. Runitha Unna.

Dr. Runitha Unna completed her M.B.B.S. at Government Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai, from August 2008 to April 2014. Subsequently, she pursued her DMRT (Diploma in Medical Radiotherapy) at the prestigious Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, Chennai, from May 2018 to September 2020. Further enhancing her expertise, she undertook a Certified Course in Essentials of Palliative Care at the same institution in September 2021. Most recently, she obtained her DNB (Radiation Oncology) from Gleneagles Health City, Chennai, between February 2022 and February 2024.

Her professional journey began as a Tutor at the Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, Chennai from October 2020 to February 2022. She then advanced to clinical practice, first as a Visiting Consultant in Radiation Oncology at Dr. Kamakshi Memorial Hospital, Pallikaranai, Chennai (March 2024 – July 2024), before becoming a full-time Consultant in Radiation Oncology at the same institution in August 2024, a position she continues to hold.

  • Award-Winning Research: Honored with the Best Oral Presentation - Dr. Padam Singh Award at the AROI State Conference in Chennai (2018) for our work on "Role of Radiation Therapy in Malignant Phyllodes Tumor."

  • Influential Presentations:

    • Oral Presentation: Shared findings on "Radiation Therapy in Triple Negative Breast Cancer" at the AROI State Conference, Thekkady (2019).

    • Poster Presentations: Showcased critical research at major conferences including the Indian Cancer Congress, Mumbai (2023), and AROI State Conferences (2022, 2023) on topics such as:

      • "Conventional vs. Hypofractionated Radiation Therapy in Prostate Cancer"

      • "Dosimetric Comparison of Heart and Lung Doses using DIBH and FB Technique in Left Breast Cancer Patients Receiving Radiation Therapy"

      • "Primary T Cell Lymphoma of Breast"

Continuous Learning: Actively participated in specialized Brachytherapy workshops organized by AROI TN & PY Chapter and ICRO (Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai & Sankara Cancer Hospital, Bangalore), ensuring the application of the latest treatment modalities.
